Morioka Yuki Akari Festival
During the Yuki Akari Festival, literally “snow candles festival”, people build small igloos called kamakura and light candles in them. In Morioka, the coldest town in Honshu, people started to light candles in the biting air of the winter nights to convey the warmth of the city and its inhabitants, which can only be felt in cold weather. In several places in the city, volunteers build snow candles and snow statues by hand for the occasion. You are invited to discover a mystical world created by the light of the candles in a snowy landscape. Date: Second Thursday to the second Saturday of February
