Winter Story on Lake Towada
The Lake Towada Winter Story festival is a major winter event held at Lake Towada during the coldest time of the year. It is said to be the largest snow festival in Tohoku. Covered in snow and ice, Lake Towada is a mystical sight in winter. The statue of a maiden, a symbol of Lake Towada, appears to float in the darkness. Like a dream, the walking paths surrounding the lake are faintly illuminated by lights on the snow. In addition to winter fireworks and a light show, you can enjoy local entertainment, local cuisine, and alcoholic drinks served in a kamakura (dome-shaped snow caves dug out of piles of snow). Held from mid-November to the end of January.
