Oirase Gorge

Oirase River flows out of Lake Towada into the Oirase Gorge that runs about 14 km through rocks and forests from Lake Towada and Nenokuchi to Yakeyama. The gorge is protected as a special scenic spot and a natural monument of Japan. One of the attractions of the Oirase Gorge is that anyone can easily walk around. Roads and promenades run alongside the stream. A tunnel of trees that wraps around the road always welcomes visitors. Sunlight filtered by new leaves in spring and summer and by colored leaves in fall gives a delicate shade to the scenery.
